To lead others effectively you have to be excellent at leading yourself. Teams and individuals have ups and downs. A leader knows how to manage others through all the different cycles – steady state, change, crisis. And to do so well, to be authentic and credible, the leader must understand oneself and one’s reactions to the cycles too. Without this self-knowledge and confident, principled, transparent and consistent stances based on it, it is impossible to be an effective champion who others willingly follow.
