Creating the future

Abraham Lincoln said “The best way to predict the future is to create it”. I have used this quote quite a bit since I first heard it, simply because I have always found it to be timelessly accurate, especially in driving transformation. It speaks eloquently to resolve and ownership. What is my approach? First, you obsess a big goal – your first $1 million or $1 billion in Net Sales, or the next $1 billion, crossing $3 billion or $5 billion or $10 billion, or your first triathlon etc. Then, on a piece of paper, write down what must be true for this goal to happen. It may not work out exactly as you design, but (1) being bold and (2) breaking the vision into small necessary actions are the first steps in a true transformation journey.
